On Tuesday, October 3rd, Reinhardt hosted its annual Rise Against Hunger Service Project. “Rise Against Hunger is an international hunger relief organization that distributes food and life-changing aid to the world’s most vulnerable, mobilizing the necessary resources to end hunger by 2030”, as stated on their website, www.riseagainsthunger.org. Volunteers gathered in the Hasty center and packaged a staggering number of 10,000 meals in a span of just two hours. Nick Johnson, student athlete, describes the service project as, “A great way to give back to the community, not just our community, but the world as well. You would much rather be doing this for somebody than to be on the receiving end of it, so we love to help in any way we can.” It is stated that around 792.5 million people in the world do not receive the necessary amount of food needed to live a healthy life, and 66 million primary school age children go to school hungry on a daily basis all across the world. Rise Against Hunger has a vision of a world without hunger and a goal of putting an end to this issue by 2030. This goal cannot be achieved without the help of all able to do so; to find another Rise Against Hunger location, please visit www.riseagainsthunger.org for more information.
