A leadership training was held with the intent of bettering the leadership skills of student leaders and advisers. General leadership skills, as well as systematic structures of Reinhardt, were taught. The overall message was to be involved in leadership and organizations.
Dr. Walter May held this workshop for all student leaders, RSO’s ( Registered Student Organization), advisers, and officers in order to train them about leadership skills. The workshop covered the overview of student organizations, functions and expectations of advisers and officers, overview of registration and recognition process, overview of policies and procedures, general liability and risk management, overview of event planning, and student organization travel policies.
Through this training, May informed people on how to effectively run an organization and recruit and retain members. He provided direction by using this workshop to guide the leaders of Reinhardt.
“My leadership experiences has made me an independent leader. I learned setting goals and objectives, management and even conflict and communication by being a student leader,” May said.
Student leader Madeline Hervey, freshman communication major, said she benefited from attending the session.
“I am a treasurer for RU serve. I learned how to put in a funding request form and policies for off-campus events. As treasurer, I plan on using the funding request forms to request money for refreshments for after our community service projects,” said Hervey.
The message that May wants students to take away from this workshop is simple.
“Be involved. Studies show that the more involved you are in college as a student, the more successful you will be,” he said.
