Save money with student discounts

Let’s face it, being a student can be expensive. Fortunately, many businesses understand this and offer student discounts on a wide variety of goods and services. These savings are useful on a daily basis, and they should be even more helpful during the upcoming holiday season. offers a list of 100-plus retailers that offer student discounts. These savings include education pricing at Apple, 10 percent off at Subway, savings on auto insurances and more. Other websites listing additional discount opportunities can be found by completing a simple Google search.

Savings are not limited to online shopping. Many physical retail stores in close proximity to campus also offer similar discounts.

On campus, the Reinhardt bookstore often offers special discounts and they are a great option for holiday shopping. Gifts can be purchased online or in the on-campus store. The bookstore is currently offering an assortment of gifts for under $25, and it often has “pop-up” sales. These sales are announced via emails sent to all Reinhardt students, faculty and staff. The most recent sale from Nov. 15-17 offered 25 percent off sweatshirts, sweatpants, blankets, drinkware and Nike, as well as an additional 25 percent off clearance. Vera Bradley items that were clearanced the previous week were also available for an additional 25 percent off the clearance price.

The bookstore is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. The bookstore is closed on weekends.

The Outlet Shoppes of Atlanta, an outdoor mall located in Woodstock, about 20 away from Reinhardt’s Waleska campus, is home to several stores that offer discounts.

Stores with discounts include:

Banana Republic

Offers 15 percent off to students and teachers.

J. Crew

Kate Spade

The Limited

Though on a regular basis the discounts are the same, occasionally some stores increase their college discount percentage depending on an event or an in-store holiday special.

“I saved over $100 just by using the student discount. It really does make a difference when you’re on a budget,” Meredith Dunnington, a local college student taking advantage of the discounts at the Outlet Shoppes said.

As an additional bonus, in most cases, the student discounts are applied on top of whatever in-store discounts are being offered.

“There’s so many different stores that have great items for the everyday college student. The overall savings are insane,” Tracy Okai, an employee at J.Crew said.

The Outlet Shoppes are open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. – 9 p.m., and from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Sundays.
